WILL SLSS CREATE TOMORROW'S FLAVOR?

The Cooking  Contest during the Nutrition Program on July 13,2012 was a very enjoyable and beneficial activity which was undertaken by the students.  There were three teams who competed with each other in Cooking, Table Setting, and Flower Arrangement.  Mrs. Marifel Orteza  led the first team, second team was under Mr. Nino Estolas and the third team was led by Mrs. Erlinda Laycano.   Cooking was the main focus but table setting and flower arrangement made perfect the classy presentation of the food being cooked.

The chores that the children enjoy to do in their kitchen at home like preparation of the ingredients even to the smallest task of peeling, mincing, chopping or washing the utensils were made meaningful as they do bigger task of responsible cooking.  They created their own recipe out of vegetables which is just on track with the theme, "Pagkain ng gulay ay ugaliin; araw-araw itong gamitin."   Vegetables were prepared to look and taste like meat.  Blended fruits and vegetables were made for drinks, so delicious and nutritious . Beautifully arranged flowers were displayed on the skirted table to complete the setting of the dining table to be so attractive and inviting for a "nutritious meal."

The students realized that cooking is one most satisfying, fulfilling and most gratifying task that one needs to learn.  They are one to say that "Everyone has to eat; so cooking as a basic know how is indeed neat."

Laycano in Action!

Mrs. Erlyn C. Laycano was elected as the president of the SLSS Teachers and Staff Organization during the election of officers on July  15, 2012.   The general set up of the officers which is the governing body of the organization are:

   President                            Mrs. Erlyn C. Laycano
   Vice president                    Mr. Nino Estolas
   Secretary                           Ms. Joane Flores
   Treasurer                           Mr. Ryle Romaine Aquino
   Auditor:                             Mr. Raniel Pasalosdos
   PRO                                  Ms. marilyn Valdez
   Adviser                              Mr. Grezy Magpili,
                                                   Principal
  Consultant                           Ms. Donna M.. Carino,
Exec. Asst to  the School Director

Mr. Magpili encouraged a functional Staff Development Program and Laycano, seeing "eye-to-eye" with him on this matter led the teachers to set realistic goals for this school year.  The teachers aimed on two things: First is  Creating a Revolving Bank for the Teacher's contiengency fund.    Secondly is a year-round in-service Teachers training, the group named "The Guardian"

Every Friday afternoon teachers convene themselves in a meeting and take turns (One teacher per meeting)  to discuss topics of instructional interest.  Fascilitator of the day will initiate discussion on problems encountered and how to solve such problems and difficulties.  Topics assigned for the first round are:
       TLE and Science......................................................Mr. Nino Estolas
Math and Science.....................................................By Mr. Renniel Pasalosdos
       Filipino......................................................................By Mr. Ryle Aquino
       Math..........................................................................Ms. Joane Flores
       English...................................................................... By Ms. Erlyn Laycano
EPP and English.........................................................By Ms. Marifel Orteza
       ESP...........................................................................By Mr. Marzan, Rose
       Makabayan................................................................By Ms. Lourdes Monis
       PREPARATORY subjects..........................................By Ms. Marilyn

The seminar started Friday, July 15,  2012 and  it is going on smoothly every  Friday thereafter.  It's amazing how this in-service training, "The Guardian"  worked towards a deeper commitment, teamwork and dedicated service of teachers for the development of the students.  The principle that the teachers hold is, "One cannot give what one does not have."  So they keep on with their professional development with the end in view of providing students' growth and development as well.
As administrators, Espiloy, Carino and Magpili  are well pleased as they keep on providing the necessary in-put aligned with the discussant.

A Night to Remember

The evening of February 24 was a fabulous occasion of lovely harmony, sharp ensembles, elegant dresses, heels, make-up, and an assortment of sentiments; all brought together to form the making of a night never to be forgotten. The high school students of this school year earned the opportunity to join the first ever Junior – Senior Promenade and High School Ball Held at Max’s Restaurant. The program was emceed by our handsome principal, Mr. Grecillio Mapili Jr. and of course the ever lovely Mrs. Erlyn Laycano.

Everyone who was seated at the tables was giddy with excitement and joy. The teachers were looking fabulous in their formal wear as well as the students all complete with pearly white smiles. During the ceremonial lighting of candles and exchange of corsages students sang to the song Auld Lang Syne followed by the last will and testament of the seniors. Of course, the giving of the sash of wisdom by Miss Alma Mater, Allyson Gilland to Clyde Carmelo and key of responsibility, by Miss Senior, Trisha Viray to Rand Evangelista, was also performed. Before Dinner, the OIC to the School President, Ms. Donna Carino held the very touching inspirational message. Soon it was time to eat and every table was enjoying the small talks and laughter.

A spicy intermission dance number was performed by selected students and lead by some of our talented teachers, which was also well applauded. Soon after was the cotillion dance that was well and amply practiced which ended in success. Finally, the long awaited portion of the program- Dance Party Time! Every one grabbed their partners and swayed to the music, some joined in the playful ‘Dougie battle’ which was quite enjoyable.

After all the enjoyment tears were shed by the emotional words of the advisory teachers; Mr. Romaine Ryle Aqunio and Mrs. Erlyn Lycano. The exchanging of hugs and the wishes of good luck lead to the crying and laughter  that ended the program. All-in-all the celebration was pure success; very sentimental and very memorable.
